This innovation selects the best “performers” from the mutants from gamma irradiated cassava plants of the “Gajah” variant, in terms of crop productivity, starch content, and HCN content (toxicity). Some of the selected mutants have a productivity of over 50 tonnes/ hectare (higher than the productivity of nationally released breeds of 20-40 tonnes / hectare); fairly high starch content (26 - 28%), low HCN content; and a degree of whiteness that is close to 100%, as preferred by food consumers. The above characteristics of selected cassava mutants will assure its broadest applications for food, feed, and biofuel.
